Uniting Outreach Mandurah was formed in December 2008 to manage the community projects of our Church.
As a Christian outreach of the Mandurah Congregation, the objects of Uniting Outreach Mandurah are: “to freely provide compassionate and practical assistance, financial and other support to people affected by illness, homelessness, unemployment, disability, poverty or other distress in need of care or emergency assistance in the local community”.
We adopted the logo depicting the “helping hands”, the dove and elements of the cross.
Uniting Outreach Mandurah services the Peel Region with emergency relief of food parcels, hygiene packs, uniforms, shoes and clothes to those in need from our Op Shop.
We are thankful for the support of the community and organisations including Lotterywest, Mandurah Bakery & Hot Bread Shop, Mandurah Charity Bike Ride, Peel Volunteer Resource Centre and our partner FinUCAre.
Projects
Uniting Op Shop
Open Monday to Friday 9.30am – 2.30pm We accept donations and all staff are volunteers. Volunteers are welcome. Please ask at the shop. The shop has furniture, kitchen goods and clothing of all sorts.
Emergency Relief Grant from Lottery West
Funding was received from 2010 to 2021 for Emergency Relief projects eg, School Lunch Vouchers, Hygiene Packs, Emergency Food Parcels and other assistance to people in crisis. Tuesday between 10am and 1pm we are open for walk ins to be assisted. Please bring your healthcare card to be assisted by our helpful team of volunteers.
Emergency Food Parcels
Are provided to people in crisis to cover a short period while waiting for an appointment with FinUCAre financial counselling or other agencies. We also provide referrals to FoodBank.
Uniforms for Students
Thanks to support from various sources, we are now able to provide uniforms to students whose families are unable (for various reasons) to provide them. This has been especially appropriate since a uniform is a requirement and winter uniforms are expensive. The students are correctly and warmly dressed. Please talk to the chaplain at your child’s school and they will provide you with a referral letter.
School Lunches
School lunches are provided at Coodanup College, John Tonkin, Mandurah Primary and Dudley Park Primary Schools.
This project is designed to enable students who have no lunch, to obtain a voucher for lunch or an apple or a sandwich. Staff have been very cooperative, checking that the students are in genuine need. The “at risk” students have benefited greatly from this support. UOM sees the need to support students who (for various reasons) do not have a supportive family situation. Adequate nutrition is essential for good concentration.
Hygiene Packs
UOM was alerted via school chaplains and Youthcare that some students do not have access to necessary hygiene/grooming products. We are trialling the packs in two local schools. Contents of the packs vary for age and sex of the student. In both schools, the staff are glad of our help in providing this type of support for the students.
Uniting Outreach Mandurah Public Meeting
This is held once a year, usually combining the Volunteer thank you event.
Rainbow Lunch
Every second Wednesday the Rainbow Lunch provides a safe social outing for people with a mental health condition, their carers and volunteers. A healthy lunch is provided with lively table conversations in a supportive social situation.
